We do not have jetpacks or a cure for cancer. We can not live on the moon or teleport to Berlin. But we have carved out a space where we live, sometimes by choice and sometimes by circumstance.
I am not making specific resolutions this year. Not even to floss daily, which is the one resolution I always make --- because it is the one that I always keep. But a list of arbitrary things no longer works for me. Is it age? Is it laziness? Is it acceptance? Is it something else I haven't contemplated because there is something that I have yet to navel-gaze?
Sorry Rust Cohle, but my time is not a flat circle. Each day is a building block, the smallest piece of LEGO that I can assemble into a pirate ship or a castle, or I can scatter them to the ground to stumble over at the end of the year.
Besides, most resolutions come from a place of self-hate. We're doing something wrong. We have bad habits. We're not healthy. Our body is wrong.
Fuck that shit.
You are already awesome. We are already awesome. So continue to be your most awesome self.
You are the Oprah of your own motherfucking heart.
