Nina Bargiel, known to tumblr as Slackmistress, is an emmy-nominated writer/producer who has been behind many shows including Lizzie McGuire, the Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, and Valemont. She was kind enough to consent to an interview about her work on Lizzie McGuire, which she was a part of from 2000 to 2002. I really love Lizzie McGuire as a show, and you can check out my earlier review of several episodes here. To check out more of Nina Bargiel’s work, follow her tumblr (I do!) or check out her website at ninabargiel.com.
This interview is pretty long, because I had a lot of questions! Read on to find out where Nina drew her experiences from, how the original conception of the show starred a different relationship dynamic than Lizzie/Miranda/Gordo, whether gay characters could have worked in the show/if the show was created now, and what she thought about the ending to Lizzie’s movie.
Without further ado!
I did an interview with the great Tumblr Feminist Disney about Lizzie McGuire.
