Last Thursday was Blogger Prom, held on the rooftop of the West Hollywood Andaz Hotel. It was an amazing evening, and I don't say that just because there was delicious food, free specialty cocktails, cheap valet parking and the fact that we won the best raffle prize in the Universe.

The thing I love about meeting bloggers IRL is that at the core of it, we're all dorks. I know that for some, the name of the game is monetizing and SEO and branding, and there's nothing wrong with that. But there's always the person - and personality - behind the blog.  And bloggers have big personalities (or is that just me?)

I recently heard someone complain about a "cool kids" clique in the blogging world, because a group of bloggers "got more hits" than they did.

To which I respond: being popular on the Internet may be awesome. But it's also dorky. 

Let's just embrace our awesome dorkiness, people.

Outside of my most favorite person (Will) I had a chance to hang out some of my favorite people I had already been lucky enough to hang our with before: Lisa, Kim, David, Travis, Joz, Mary, Andy, but I also got to finally meet some of the people I have been virtually stalking for ages: Julia, Lucinda Michele, Mike, Caroline, Lindsay, Laurie Percival, AVFLox, as well as meeting some new bloggers: Hot Pink Manolos, LetMeEatCake, GreenLAGirl and Foodwolf.

(I'm sure I'm forgetting someone, mea culpa!)

We may be a bunch of dorks, but we're hot, funny dorks. And the women in this community make me want to form some sort of amazonian cotton-panty pillowfighting army.

I do know that some bloggers were upset that they were not invited to the Prom, but the Prom Committee did put out the word on Twitter a good six weeks before invites went out. Space was limited, and I could see why because from the second we walked in to the moment we left with our swag bags, it was a night to remember. The Prom Committee worked their butts off.

Vick, Revisted.

Michael Vick was reinstated by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell today.

While morally I don't agree - legally I imagine the NFL had no recourse but to reinstate the former Atlanta Falcons QB. (He was released by the Falcons in June.) Other NFL players have committed heinous crimes and been allowed to play.

I don't think that celebrities and sports stars should be held up to a higher standard. But there's a wide divide between regular standards and dogfighting.

Now Vick never served time for animal cruelty - he plead guilty "to one count of "conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture."

No one would argue against the fact that what he financed, participated in and encouraged was torture. (Warning: while no graphic photos, there are graphic descriptions.)

I read that Vick described his actions as "immature." What I have yet to see is him refer to them as "inhumane." I'm stuck on this fact.  My guess is that my 3-year-old niece, while "immature" knows that dogfighting is wrong. Cruel. Inhuman.

My guess is that the NFL, with no legal recourse as Vick as served his time, is shuttling the responsibility to the teams, hoping that no one picks up his contract.

I want to scream, I want to demonize, I want to wave bloody signs.

But my guess is that all that will do is further marginalize those who strive to end dogfighting. They will be grouped in with PeTA. (Who already wants to Kill Pit Bulls Dead.) They'll be extremists. They'll be crazies.

My guess is that the best plan of action would be a financial freeze on whatever team that shows interest  in Vick. (According to SFGate, the Jets, the Giants and the Cowboys have already started that they would not consider signing him.) Write letters. Send emails. Let your teams know on Twitter that you will not go to the stadium, you won't buy that jersey, you won't support them with a single penny if they support Michael Vick.

As for MIchael Vick, I don't know enough about the man to know if he's truly remorseful. I have this deep and abiding belief that people are essentially good. Maybe Vick will get picked up by a team. Maybe he'll prove me wrong.

We'll just have to wait and see.

I am asleep, limbs akimbo and pillow smashed under my face, Daisy snoring softly at my feet.  I crawled into bed at 2:11am after a marathon writing session, and I have 29 minutes until my alarm goes off.

Honey?  Honey?

I open my eyes to discover Will standing next to the bed, looming over me.  I think he wants a goodbye kiss. But as I pucker up, but he shakes his head.

Is everything okay? I croak.

He smiles and nods, momentarily unable to speak.

I blink once, twice. What?

He breaks into an even bigger grin.  I got a DM from Ted Leo.

So this day ranks in terms with the day you got married and the day you saw boobs.

He nodded. 

I rolled over and thought Tom Scharpling...Paul F. Tompkins...and now Ted Leo.

We're going to need a bigger bed.

Unicorn Farts: Skittles & Cheeseburgers?

A email exchange betwixt myself and the fabulous Betsey Booms.

Me: There are people who think our relationship just farts rainbows 24/7.

Betsey:  Now does it fart rainbows like maybe 20 hours a day/7 days a week?  I'm just curious what one eats to fart rainbows.  Please say it's booze related.

Me: We have farting and we have rainbows but they have yet to intersect. Will tries to convince me that they're rainbows.  But that would mean rainbows smell like rotten eggs.  Which means unicorns smell like...oh god, I don't want to know. 

Betsey: I'm pretty sure that if unicorns could fart it would be Skittles and cheeseburgers.
